The Consul of Ukraine in Gdansk checked the information. This is stated in the press service of the Department of Consular Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on Twitter.
According to the report, the consul informs about the absence of Ukrainians among the victims as a result of the collision of trains.
At the same time, the spokesman for the Polish Railways Miroslav Semenets said that as a result of the collision the locomotive and seven of the 11 carriages of the passenger train descended from the rails.
28 people were injured, including 15 children. In total there were about 200 people on the train. According to him, it is still unknown why the freight train ignored the exit signal from the side track at the Smenovo station and left for the main rut. This was the reason for the collision with the train Pogoria (Gdynia Home - Bielsko Biala / Zakopane), which moved on schedule, - said Semenets.
Recall, as reported URA-Inform, in Poland at the railway station Smentovo in the evening, August 30, a freight train collided with a passenger, resulting in injured 28 people. The causes of the accident are investigated by a special commission.
