Within the framework of the antiterrorist struggle, the European Commission does not exclude the introduction of border checks within the EU. "The security of Europeans should have priority, and we in the European Commission are thinking about whether we should change the current rules in accordance with the new situation," EU Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration Affairs Dimitris Avramopoulos told the Passauer Neue Presse, published on Wednesday , 30 August.

"We must distinguish the intra-European inspections that are associated with the migration crisis of 2015-2016, from those that will be introduced for security reasons," added Avramopoulos. He also noted that he is in constant contact with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the EU countries, and added that "open to new proposals".

Inspections at the borders of some EU member states were first introduced in September 2015 at the height of the migration crisis. At the moment, border control is possible only by special permission, since systematic checks in the Schengen area are prohibited. Recently, Germany and Austria supported the extension of the border controls.
