Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports that a unique operation was launched in the Kerch Strait to deliver and install on the fairways the arch of a railway bridge weighing more than 6,000 tons. Information Center "Crimean Bridge" informs that the operation will last 72 hours, because of which the shipping in the Kerch-Enikalsk channel will be limited.
This morning, on August 27, the railway arch is transported on a floating system five kilometers from the shore. It is noted that the delivery is provided by more than 10 ships and a hundred people - engineers, scientists and bridge builders. It is reported that the arch is transported to the target between the fairway supports and fixed with anchor cables, and then with the help of 700 cables of increased strength will be lifted onto the supports at a speed of five meters per hour.
The deputy general director for infrastructural projects of the contractor Leonid Ryzhenkin noted that the launching operation is unique for the domestic bridge construction - not only because of transportation on specially made pontoons in Sevastopol, but also because of the unstable hydrometeorological background in the sea area. He recalled that the weather here is very volatile. As weather forecasters assured, in the next three days the wind speed will not exceed 10 meters per second.
Ryzhenkin opined: "Such an operation would not be possible without the gigantic experience gained Mostovik at other sites. Our naval operation is the result of many years of practice and advanced technologies of domestic and world bridge construction ".
It is known that the railway arch consists of more than 400 large elements. For its assembly, almost four kilometers of butt welds of the first category are made, more than 600,000 pieces of high-strength bolts. The length of the span of the railway arch is 227 meters, and the altitude at the highest point is 45 meters. It is noted that the movement of trains is provided in two ways.
It is reported that the final installation of the railway arch will be completed in a month.
