Putin wants Trump to continue to wreak havoc and confusion in the only nation on Earth that could paralyze his power in Russia alone.
Garry Kasparov wrote about this in his article for The Washington Post. This is reported by the Economy from the Prophet.
Last week, the Senate and House of Representatives approved new tough sanctions against Russia for its aggression against Ukraine and its cyber-interference in the US presidential election of 2016. Legislators have included measures to prevent the possible violation of legislation by President Trump.
Trump signed the bill on August 2, not hiding his dissatisfaction. Here the company was immediately formed by the Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, who decided to provoke the irascible Trump with his favorite media, writing on Twitter that the Congress "humiliated" him. It was the perfect way to flatter future dictator Trump: "Would you have had complete control over America like Vladimir Putin over Russia! "Medvedev's comments echoed the comments of Trump and the president's support group on Fox News. This choir represents Trump as a hostage to Congress and various "internal enemies" that prevent him from returning to America (and Russia) the former greatness. However, between the lines one can read an absolutely distinctly authoritarian message: if the leader had total control over the country, the affairs of her and her people would go better.
Medvedev's phrases, published both in English and Russian, I interpret as a mafia warning from Putin's consiglio, this "severed horse's head" in 140 characters in the president's bed, reminding Trump of his obligations, whatever they may be. Trump, of course, answered. 24 hours later he repeated his theses about "slander about Russia" at a meeting in West Virginia.
Putin's response to sanctions - the expulsion of 755 US embassy personnel from Russia is something that Trump did not mention and what he still needs to pay attention to. This is a huge number, including many Russian embassy employees, not just American diplomats and staff (do not forget: President Barack Obama sent only 35 Russian diplomats when he chose retaliatory measures for Moscow's intervention in December 2016). The first notable result of these measures will be severe restrictions when Russians get a visa to the United States. As usual, Putin in his sanctions first punishes Russians.
When the Magnitsky Act limited the possibility of violating human rights in Russia, Putin in return prohibited the adoption of Russian orphans by American families. When Obama finally imposed sanctions on Russia in connection with Putin's invasion of Ukraine in 2014 and the annexation of the Crimea, Putin responded by imposing a ban on numerous types of imported food. Its officials even staged a show from the destruction of large stocks of products in the country, where millions of people with difficulty earn their living on bread. As they say in one Russian anecdote: "If America bombs Syria, then Russia will bomb Voronezh in return! ".
It seems strange that the leader of the country himself creates difficulties for his people, especially when after 17 and a half years of Putin's kleptocracy and almost three years of low oil prices came to ruin. But Putin does not care about the welfare of Russian citizens, and so it has always been. But all the same, he needs to look for an excuse to explain why everything is so bad, despite all the years that he was in power, without any competition. His method is to create enemies, and the stronger they are, the better to create rhetoric, that Russia is waging war, and in war, sacrifices are needed and, of course, complete devotion to the great leader who is struggling to defend his homeland.
Some supporters of cooperation with Moscow argue that sanctions against Putin only play into his hands. However, this is a myth. No appeasement policy will turn Putin into an ally of the free world, if only the free world remains so. Putin will not stop until he is stopped, and this will not happen until his clique sees him as an obstacle to his enrichment and power, and not his resource. Sanctions that deal a blow to the investment of Putin's gang abroad are a great way to achieve this goal.
It is important to understand that Putin does not care if Trump wins in his battles with Congress and the courts. Putin wants Trump to continue to wreak havoc and confusion in the only nation on Earth that could paralyze his power in Russia alone. This explains why the Kremlin trolls are trying so hard to support the extreme right campaign against the most capable person in the White House, the national security adviser G. McMaster's.
McMaster did not have any illusions about the threat that Putin poses, and Putin knows that it's much easier to manipulate people who care about themselves, not about the welfare of the country. Time to end the romance of Putin and Trump has not yet come. Trump is still the Kremlin's best opportunity to create turmoil in Washington and shake confidence in America abroad. Trump is still incapable of criticizing Putin - the ego does not allow him to admit that his election victory was due to a hacker attack by a hostile foreign power. Trump and Putin may have different topics on the agenda, but they are really moving towards the same goal - to put all the power that Trump can muster.
