The authorities of Transcarpathia renamed Oktyabrskaya Square in the village of Minai near Uzhgorod and gave it the name of the American artist Andy Warhol. This decision was made as part of the implementation of the law on decommunization. This was reported in the press service of the head of Transcarpathian ODA Gennady Moskal,.

"We could open this square a few months ago or even last year, but we chose the beginning of August, because on August 6, Andy Warhol would have turned 89 years old. Warhol has Ukrainian roots, his parents lived a hundred kilometers from Uzhgorod, so the artist deserves to be named after him in the area in Transcarpathia, "- said the governor.

Warhol is considered the founder of the modernist trend of pop art in painting and is among the top ten most expensive artists in the world.
