His predecessor, the former head of the Japanese Foreign Ministry, Fumio Kisida, was appointed head of the council on politics of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).

Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe appointed 19 new ministers, including the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications, Finance, Justice, Education, Port, Science, Culture.
