The US Department of State and the Pentagon have developed plans to supply anti-tank missiles and other weapons to Kiev and seek its approval by the White House, the Wall Street Journal wrote on Monday, July 31, referring to representatives of the US administration. According to the publication, the development of this plan is due to the ongoing struggle of Kiev with the Russian-backed separatists, as well as the deterioration of relations between Moscow and Washington. According to the US military and diplomats, the weapons, which they characterize as defensive, are designed to deter aggressive actions of Moscow. The adoption of the White House final decision on the implementation of this plan may take months, says The Wall Street Journal. According to the sources of the newspaper, the US Secretary of Defense supports the supply of weapons to Ukraine. Pentagon spokesman Michelle Baldansa confirmed the publication that Washington is still considering the possibility of supplying Ukraine with "lethal defensive weapons".
