Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on a new, simplified procedure for granting Russian citizenship to Ukrainians. From September 1, 2017, the law will enter into force.

A new law in the Russian Federation introduced a rule that for obtaining Russian citizenship Ukrainians can not produce a certificate from the official bodies of Ukraine on the withdrawal from the previous citizenship. Instead of a reference, it is enough to write a request to Ukrainian authorities to refuse Ukrainian citizenship, to make a copy of this letter and to submit a notarized copy to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

The law also approved the text of the oath, which foreigners should bring by entering into Russian citizenship. From the oath, minors, incompetent persons, those unable to read or pronounce the text, or other citizens by the decision of the President of Russia.

The law in Russia was adopted on July 19. The State Migration Service of Ukraine takes these initiatives seriously. The State Ministry insists that to end the citizenship of Ukraine need a decree of the President of Ukraine and other options do not exist.
