Since MIUI 8 has undergone a significant redesign of the system, in MIUI 9, the company focused on optimization, performance, enhancements and user interface improvements.

Xiaomi employees have done a lot of work to optimize the firmware. Thanks to the scheduling of threads and the acceleration of the processor, the system and applications will be loaded much faster. Now MIUI will independently allocate resources to improve the performance of applications when performing tasks. There was also an optimization of background tasks, automatic memory cleaning, cache management, real-time fragmentation control, protection, wireless connection and other. Also Xiaomi promises an improved tactile response when interacting with the system.

An important innovation of MIUI 9 was the built-in "smart" virtual assistant. It allows you to quickly and easily find the right applications, notes, images and more. Also, he supports a new universal search for photos, which allows you to find pictures of a particular person, made in a certain place.

Also Xiaomi realized in MIUI 9 "smart" launch of applications depending on the context. For example, if you are in a conversation discussing an institution or an address, a small notice will appear at the bottom with a suggestion to view reviews of this place or to build a route. The same will happen with movies and any other information. With which applications this function will be compatible - is still unknown.

Another expected function of MIUI 9 was the multi-window mode. It allows you to work simultaneously with two applications, dividing the screen in half. From other notable changes - updated icons of standard programs.

Xiaomi noted that most of the new features, such as virtual assistant, universal search by photos and smart startup applications, will initially be available only in the Chinese version of MIUI 9. The timing of the appearance of these functions in the global firmware is not reported.
