Virtual Reality Technology (VR) is actively used in video games and for entertainment purposes. However, experts from Daydream Labs of Google believe that the possibilities of virtual reality technology are much wider. For example, now in Daydream Labs are testing the possibility of using VR as a learning platform for learning different skills.

To test this, Daydream Labs conducted an experiment, trying to teach its participants how to make coffee with an espresso machine. The first group was taught how to make a cup of coffee in practice using a 3D model of an espresso machine that reacts similarly to a machine in real life, giving also a detailed guide to its use. Another group was simply invited to watch a video on YouTube to learn how to make coffee.

Both groups were given as much time as necessary for training and getting to know the process before actually preparing coffee. As a result, it turned out that the group, trained with the use of virtual reality technology, spent less time getting coffee preparation skills than the group that watched the YouTube video. Participants in the experiment, trained with the technology of virtual reality, it was enough two repetitions that learn how to make coffee, while using the video as a benefit on YouTube it was necessary to repeat the cooking process three times.

When it came to the actual test, Google found that those who had trained in virtual reality made fewer mistakes and spent less time preparing an espresso. Google noted that it is impossible to draw full-fledged conclusions based on only one experiment, but it seems that the potential of VR technology for educational purposes still exists.
