Analysts at IDC report on improving the situation in the traditional PC market (including desktop systems, laptops and workstations) in the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa). In the second quarter of 2017, the region received 15.9 million PC-devices, which is only 0.6% less than a year earlier.
Positive dynamics was recorded for the notebook segment. Their supplies to the EMEA grew by 3.1% year-on-year, while in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) and the Middle East and Africa (MEA) there was an even more pronounced growth - by 5.2% and 11.1% respectively. In Western Europe, the increase was 0.4%.
Investments in the public and private sectors in the CEMA subregion (including the CEE and MEA countries), as well as the growth of economic confidence in the largest markets and the seasonal increase in activity due to the near start of the new school year, contributed to the rise in the segment of commercial laptops, deliveries to CEMA and Western Europe increased by 18.6% and 3%. At the same time, shipments of consumer-grade laptops to CEMA increased by 3.5%, while in Western Europe there was a 2%.
According to the category of desktops, the downward trend is still maintained - their deliveries to the EMEA in April-June fell by 8.3%. At the same time, in CEE countries there was an upswing - desktop PC shipments here increased by 7.8% after several years of contraction.
In general, the market of traditional PCs in Central and Eastern Europe has been showing growth for the second consecutive quarter - this time the increase was 6.1%, which experts regard as a sign of recovery.

Speaking about the alignment of forces between vendors, experts noted the ongoing consolidation. Three leading PC manufacturers strengthened their positions and in the second quarter of 2017 provided 59.3% of the total volume of PC shipments to the EMEA compared to 56.7% a year earlier.
The market leader was HP Inc. With a share of 26.5% (+ 1%) and a delivery rate of 4.2 million devices (+ 3.2%). In second place, Lenovo (20.6%, 3.28 million PCs), and the third Dell (12.2%, 1.94 million PCs). In the top 5 also included ASUS (10%, 1.6 million) and Acer (9.2%, 1.47 million).
