Around the second silent and informal meeting of Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit is so much noise, because the one with whom the US President meets in such a situation can cause serious consequences for foreign policy. This can affect the relationship of America with its allies and enemies.

About this in the pages of the Financial Times wrote the former deputy national security adviser Julianne Smith.

She notes that this is why presidents and members of the government always act according to a whole set of rules that deal with communicating with foreign leaders. And Trump during the second meeting with Putin neglected these rules.

Before the international summits, US presidential aides always make up two lists: the countries that ask for a meeting with the American leader, and the countries whose leaders the American side would like to meet. Washington traditionally offers other countries two formats of the meeting: a two-way, which lasts at least an hour, and "on its feet", which provides that the leaders in 10-15 minutes will discuss one or two questions.

"No country has ever been offered meetings in both formats. Time is too short, and the list is too big, "the expert notes..

For some reason, Trump at the G20 summit decided to neglect the work of his team to prepare meetings, to abandon the standard protocol and to meet with Putin for the second time.

"How do we know that the Trump team did not plan an informal meeting on its feet with Russia?" She did not send her Russian-speaking interpreter to this conversation, "notes Smith.

She emphasizes that an unplanned meeting with Putin is very worrying and can have negative consequences.

"This gave the Russian side a big advantage. This allowed Putin to say what he might not have said in the presence of his assistants and Trump's assistants. This guaranteed that there would be no official record of the conversation, which gives Russia great control over stories about her. It also allows Putin to assert that something was distorted in the translation, when he did not fulfill some promise that was given to Trump. The latter may still regret that he gave control over the meeting, "reads the article.

Earlier, the Los Angeles Times wrote that the second meeting of Trump with Putin looks like it's worse than nowhere else. The American president gave the Russians the opportunity to write any scenario of the meeting and tell the public anything that was said. Another problem is that Trump forgot about the possible consequences of his improvised chatter with Putin, if of course they were improvised.
