The situation in the world market of NOR flash memory, where overproduction was observed for a long time, changes to the opposite. Previously, NOR memory in large quantities was in demand in cell phones, but their market shrank, which led to a decrease in demand for NOR. At the same time, it was replaced by a small amount of NAND flash memory.

A new rise in demand is associated with the AMOLED screens, which are increasingly found in smartphones. NOR memory chips are used in appropriate control circuits. According to the source, for the Full HD screen you need 8 Mbit NOR flash memory, for the QHD screen - twice as much.

In addition, the change in the market situation is due to the growing demand in the segments of automotive electronics and industrial controllers.

The emerging shortage of flash memory type NOR is exacerbated by the fact that leading manufacturers in the face of Micron Technology and Cypress Semiconductor have ceased production of microcircuits of small and medium capacity. At the beginning of the year, Micron was generally credited with the intention to get rid of NOR production.

Changes are rushing to take advantage of Taiwanese and Chinese companies, rapidly increasing the output of flash memory type NOR.
