Honey harvest-2017 is twice as expensive as it was last year. And every spoon of fresh delicacy is a few dead bees. Because the weather this summer is such that these hardworking insects practically do not fly out of the hives and they do not have enough harvest even for their own food, not to mention the stocks for the winter, told the "Izvestia" president of the Russian National Union of Beekeepers Arnold Butov. Accordingly, responsible beekeepers not only can not pump fresh honey, but are forced to feed last year's supplies, otherwise bees will not survive the winter. And no sugar substitute will save.

"I always say that a bee has many enemies, but the most important is a greedy beekeeper," Butov said.. He explained that when using sugar in bees, the immune system is dramatically weakened. First, for its processing the bee must spend much more energy, and secondly, the syrup is an inadequate substitute for the natural nutrition of the bee. And if in the diet of a bee family more than a third of sugar, it simply dies.

In addition, feeling a shortage of food, the uterus ceases to lay eggs, so the dead worker bees are replaced by none, and the livestock is not replenished. Accordingly, by the next summer the apiary will retain at best half of the swarm. And there are no bees - there is no pollination in the fields, including crops. That is, and the harvest will be less.

While beekeepers hope for August - if the European part of the country stops pouring, and in Siberia ceases to burn, then insects can still make a strategic reserve, which will hold out for the winter. With sugar, of course. So even in the best case of natural honey on the shelves, the Russians will not see.
