Scientists from the Asian division of Microsoft Research have developed a security system based on artificial intelligence, able to understand when something unusual happens and notify the hosts of the house.

Modern cameras can respond to traffic, but there are too many records in the system. Owners find it difficult to view all videos to understand such a large amount of information. Microsoft has developed a technology that can appreciate the nature of what happens and understand when something unusual happens in front of the camera. If the event is significant enough - the system notifies the hosts and includes it in the bulletin for the day, according to a press release from the company.

Earlier, representatives of the Asian division of Microsoft Research urged specialists to send scientific work related to the analysis of video (Big Video Data Analytics). In response, his research shared Weyao Lin from Shanghai University of Transportation. In collaboration with a senior researcher from Microsoft Research Asia, Tao May, they developed a system that is capable of detecting unusual events in a continuous monitoring mode and creating reports on the fly. Summary from the smartphone app can be requested at any time.

Lin proposed a method based on a convolutional neural network. It recognizes objects, watches them and highlights certain events. For example, if a person stumbles and falls, the neural network will find this unusual, and the program notifies the host. The system can also recognize traffic violators on the roads.

AI technologies are increasingly being introduced into home video surveillance systems. For example, in May, Nest was presented with a camera for rooms with the function of recognizing faces. Cam IQ recognizes people and understands who they are.
