Tavda residents sentenced to public works for stealing two icons

Tavdinsky District Court pronounced a verdict on the 30-year-old local resident. He was found guilty of stealing the icons "Savior Almighty" and "Saint Simeon Verkhoturye" in March 2017 from an apartment in a house on 9 January Street, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sverdlovsk region.

With a statement to the Interior Ministry last spring, a woman of the year of 1949 turned up, who asked to bring to criminal responsibility an intruder who stole holy images from her son's home. Icons inherited her.

"To check and establish the identity of the hunter for other people's icons instructed the service of district commissioners. Police lieutenant Sergei Kozlov figured out and detained the thief, who, in turn, confessed to having committed and voluntarily returned the kidnapped to the rightful owners and even brought personal apologies to the injured party. Art criticism evaluated one icon at 30,000 rubles, and the second in 2000 rubles. They have no special historical, artistic, scientific or cultural value, according to the official conclusion, "- said Valery Gorelykh, the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sverdlovsk Region.

With regard to the kidnapper, the police instituted criminal proceedings on the basis of the crime provided for in part 2 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Theft). The sanction of this article provides for imprisonment for up to five years.

"At trial, the accused fully admitted his guilt. Given this circumstance, the court found it possible not to send him to the institution of the penitentiary system. The first time he was sentenced, according to which he is obliged to work for the state's income 300 hours, "said Colonel Gorelykh.
