Two upcoming Ukrainian-American agreements in the defense sphere showed serious changes in the White House's position regarding the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
This was stated by the Ambassador of Ukraine in the United States Valery Chaly, reports "Ukrinform".
"Both documents will promote military-technical cooperation, and will also simplify the withdrawal of American arms products to the Ukrainian market and, accordingly, the Ukrainian one - to the US market. That is, these agreements will help implement the political decision, which is not yet accepted by the White House. But the meetings showed that serious changes are now taking place in the approaches of the US administration, "the ambassador explained..
He stressed that the deals will concern mutual defense purchases, as well as conducting research and development work. Chaly reminded that the item on defensive weapons for Ukraine is in the bipartisan decision of both chambers of the Congress.
"What has changed and what has not happened in recent years is the official request of the White House in the budget of 2018, which determines the possibility of providing lethal weapons of a defensive nature," the diplomat added..
As the "Observer" wrote, the Pentagon is discussing the issue of providing the US with lethal weapons for Ukraine.
