Analysts Digitimes Research report on the growth of laptop shipments from five leading brand laptop manufacturers and three largest ODM-companies specializing in the assembly of laptops.
In PC brands, shipments of laptops in May 2017 increased by 26% compared to April, while contract manufacturers recorded a monthly increase of 34%. Experts associate progress with the seasonal increase in demand for laptops from the educational segment, as well as increased sales to the corporate sector. It is also noted that "contractors" have demonstrated higher rates than PC brands, due to an increase in orders from American vendors, as well as weak performance in Lenovo.
HP Inc. , Which increased the supply of laptops in May, came in first place in shipping laptops, ahead of Dell, which was in the lead the previous month. Also, specialists pay attention to the further widening of the gap between HP and Lenovo - in May the difference in deliveries of these brands exceeded 1.2 million devices. Dell's May shipments were slightly lower than April's, but year-on-year growth was more than 10% due to demand from corporate customers in North America.
Lenovo, which took the third place in supply in May, faced serious problems both in terms of market transactions and personnel management, according to an analytical note.
As for ODM-companies, the largest of them, Quanta Computer, increased notebook shipments by 48% due to orders from HP and Apple. In addition, a 20 percent increase was noted at Compal Electronics and Wistron.
