The use of vitamin C can significantly reduce the effectiveness of a wide range of cancer drugs, scientists say..

Scientists conducted an experiment in which it was found that under the action of drugs from cancer, 30 to 70% less cancer cells die, if the cells are pretreated with vitamin C. Since vitamin C is the main food antioxidant, it is often taken by cancer patients to support the body during chemotherapy.

American experts conducted a test in mice, which showed that the drugs from cancer acted much weaker if mice were injected with vitamin C. Thus, this vitamin contributed to a weak response of the body to chemotherapy, experts noted.. The efficacy was reduced from 30% to 70% depending on the drug used.

The results of the experiment showed that in animals given vitamin C, tumors grew more intensively than those who were not given a vitamin and used only drugs to treat cancer. According to experts, the reason may be that cancer drugs produce free radicals that interact with other molecules in the cancer cell, leading to its death. Perhaps vitamin C displaces free radicals and supports a cancer cell, despite the chemotherapy, experts suggest.
