Apple and IKEA are working on augmented reality application that will allow you to see how things will look at your home. Michael Valdsgaard, IKEA's digital transformation manager, told the Swedish website Digital. Di, that "this will be the first supplemented reality application that allows you to make reliable purchasing decisions".

In the first version of the program, customers can take photos of rooms in their homes and post images of IKEA products where they want. According to Waldsgaard, the user will be able to determine the state of things to within a millimeter. In this case, the size of the products will be scaled under the photos. Ultimately, customers will be able to order things right through the application.

The standard application "Catalog IKEA" allows you to do something similar, but its accuracy leaves much to be desired. In it, you can select a piece of furniture and observe how it overlaps what the camera points to. You can drag furniture and thus get an approximate idea of ??how it will look in your home. With the help of the program it is even possible to understand whether the subject is fit in size. But thanks to Apple's technology and the experience of the company with augmented reality, says Valdsgaard, the new application will be much better than the existing one.

IKEA is not the only retail company that offers to buy products through augmented reality. Lowe's and Pottery Barn also have applications that give an idea of ??how furniture and appliances will look at home. Lowe's even uses augmented reality to navigate the stores, and virtual reality - to give lessons on improving the home.

IKEA wants the application to be ready for iOS 11, but it does not promise anything.. At the time the program is launched, 500-600 products will be available in it.
