Nokia has announced, as it claims, the world's fastest processor for networking equipment. In addition, there are routers that use the new solution, and therefore they can be considered the fastest on the market.

The processor, called the manufacturer FP4, provides data transmission at 2.4 Tbit / s, which is six times higher than the performance of the most powerful chips in its class. Thus, we are talking about the first semiconductor solution capable of transmitting terabit IP packets in one second.

FP4 found application in the routers Nokia 7750 Service Router (SR) -s and Nokia 7950 Extensible Routing System (XRS) -XC. The latter is positioned as the most productive router in the world, since it supports data transfer at speeds up to 576 Tb / s without connecting additional network modules.

According to the technical director of the IP / Optical Networks division Steve Vogelsang (Steve Vogelsang), the new processor is designed to provide the speeds required by new technologies.

"For the last 10 years we have been busy with the issues of video transmission, that's why we built the topology of the Internet and optimized everything connected with the problems of distribution and delivery of video content to end users," Vogelsang told VentureBeat.

According to Nokia's forecasts, the volume of global IP traffic will more than double in the next five years due to the widespread introduction of machine learning technologies, the Internet of things and unmanned vehicle management.
