European researchers report that teens who use their cell phones more than 15 times a day are more likely to experience sleep disorders than those who rarely use a cell phone.
Researchers studied 21 healthy adolescents aged 14 to 20 years with a permanent place of work or training who had no problems sleeping. Ten teenagers from the observed rarely used a cell phone, making no more than five calls a day or sending the same number of text messages. The other 11 people were more attached to their electronic friend. They called friends and acquaintances more than 15 times a day or sent the same number of text messages. Four of the observed did more than 30 messages a day, and one even more than 200.
During the experiment, participants were asked more than forty questions about their lifestyle and habits. Especially researchers were interested in the schedule and duration of sleep - how well and how long sleep watched, how much caffeine they consume and so on. They were also asked about how they usually feel during the day, if they do not get enough sleep. In addition, adolescents wore small, clock-like devices that fixed in memory their mobility. With the help of these devices, scientists could receive objective data about the activity and recreation of young people.
It turned out that among teenagers who use cellular communication more often than others, the time of awakening was later. They woke up at about 10:50, while those who used the cell phone less often rose about 8:34. The study also showed that seven of the eleven special cellular adherents woke up on weekends in the afternoon. However, it must be said that there was no difference in daytime drowsiness between the two groups.
Scientists believe that teenagers and parents should be aware of the risks associated with the use of mobile phones. They do not ask that young people completely abandon the use of cellular communication, but orderly intervals without the use of a mobile phone during the day could help improve sleep, making it more deep and calm.
