EU residents now do not pay for roaming if they use a phone or mobile Internet in another EU country. This, however, does not prevent telephone companies from trying to compensate for losses in a different way.

In the European Union on Thursday, June 15, the payment for roaming was finally canceled. This means that from now on the EU residents will pay at home tariff if they decide to use telephone, SMS or mobile Internet in another EU country.

Providers are allowed to charge an additional fee only in case of abuse, when, for example, someone signs a mobile phone contract in another European country at a cheaper price, and then constantly uses the received SIM card at home to save money.

Chief in the Federal Republic of Germany fund of independent examination of goods and services Stiftung Warentest, however, still urged consumers to carefully examine their contracts, before using mobile phones on vacation. The fact is that some operators set other prices when charging for telephone calls between customers of the same provider abroad.

As Stiftung Warentest found out, in general, only customers of 9 out of 16 providers tested by them can now use a mobile phone abroad on the same terms as at home.
