Qatar confirms withdrawal of peacekeeping forces from the border of Djibouti and Eritrea

"Qatar informed the government of Djibouti about the withdrawal of all its troops stationed on the Djibouti border," the statement of the country's foreign ministry, cited by Trend.

Earlier, the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Anba reported that the government of Djibouti received an official note from the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the termination of Qatar's mediation between Djibouti and Eritrea. The publication claimed that Qatar also withdrew its peacekeeping forces from the border of two African countries that have been stationed in the region since 2008.

The territorial conflict between Djibouti and Eritrea arose in 2008 and lasted from 10 to 13 June. The parties concluded a ceasefire agreement in Qatar's capital Doha in 2010.

Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE and Egypt on June 5 announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Qatar, accusing Doha of supporting terrorist organizations and destabilizing the situation in the Middle East. The authorities in eastern Libya, Yemen, as well as the Maldives, Mauritania, the Comoros subsequently also announced the severance of relations with Qatar. Decline in diplomatic relations with Doha was announced in Djibouti, Senegal withdrew its ambassador to Qatar.
