"The decision to rename the football team Ilyichevets in FC Mariupol is implemented," says the club's statement.

"Mariupol is not only a city of metallurgists and steelworkers. Mariupol is a city of sailors and students, machine builders and railway workers. In our city live Ukrainians, Russians, Greeks, Armenians, Jews and Belarusians. Mariupol is the capital of the Azov Sea and the outpost of Ukraine in the South-East! In our opinion, all this requirement is the name of FC Mariupol. We believe that it fully reflects the entire rich palette of our region. We do not doubt that Mariupol will become the flagship of the Azov Sea and will adequately represent the region not only on the Ukrainian, but also on the European arena ".
