Modric, who is not among the suspects, testified in the trial of Zdravko Mamich, who was the executive director of the Zagreb Dynamo from 2003 to 2016.

Mamich is suspected of embezzling the club's funds through fictitious transactions committed during transfers of several former Dynamo players to foreign championships.

Modric said that he had made a deal with Mamich, according to which he paid 50% of the cost of his transition to Tottenham in 2008, which amounted to 21 to 23 million euros. At the same time, part of the money was transferred in cash directly to the brother and son of Mamich.

Defender Liverpool Dejan Lovren will stand trial on Wednesday, June 14, to testify about his transition from Dynamo to Lyon in 2010.

The authorities accuse Mamich, his brother Zoran and two other persons in misappropriating 12 million euros of club money and tax evasion in the amount of 1.6 million euros.
