The fact that Ukraine has received a visa-free regime is absolutely wonderful event. This makes it easier for people to visit Europe and see with their own eyes how it looks, how the daily life of Europeans is organized, expand their horizons. But at the same time, let's not exaggerate the significance of this event. For two reasons. Firstly, unfortunately, trips to Europe are too expensive for most Ukrainians. Even for a few days.
God forbid, if they start to fly, as the low-costers promise. If at last the state takes up the actual monopoly, which UIA has for today, because of what its flights to Europe cost in comparison with how much the flights of loukosterov are unreasonably high. You look, then the opportunities expand, so that more of our citizens would go to the Schengen area. Therefore, the government should continue to work to make these trips cheaper.
At the same time, we must understand that from obtaining a visa-free regime to joining the European Union - a distance of a huge size. And God forbid, if suddenly many Ukrainians try to use the visa-free regime to go to Europe for work. If there is a critical mass of people who are trying to illegally find a job in the EU countries, this may end badly. Ukraine may have new problems. I do not think that this will be the basis for the suspension of the visa-free regime, but the problems will be. And in this sense, the government should conduct some kind of explanatory work. Do not confuse visa-free travel regime with the opportunity to enter Europe for work.
As for the fact that the visa-free regime means the final solution of all the problems that Ukraine has with Russia, it seems to me that speaking about it in such terms as some Ukrainian politicians say is to give out what is desired for a real. The volume of trade with the Russian Federation is still billions of dollars. Yes, it significantly decreased compared to the times of Yanukovych, but all the same the bill goes on billions of dollars. Still, for Ukraine this is the main country, whether we like it or not, where Ukrainians go to work. Most of all Ukrainian zarobitchchan is in Russia.
Yes, we stopped buying Russian gas and this is good. But let's not forget that the revenues from the transit of Russian gas to Europe still constitute a significant part of the Ukrainian budget.
Still there is the problem of Crimea, which must be somehow solved and this process can take a very long time. The problem of the occupied territory in the east of Ukraine still exists. And this problem must also be solved, but it will not be possible to solve quickly. As for NATO, thank God that the Ukrainian legislation has been amended, which fix the refusal of Ukraine from the former so-called non-aligned status. But again, from the refusal of Ukraine from the non-bloc status to receiving at least the NATO Membership Action Plan, the MAP, is also a huge distance.
Therefore, it seems to me, in spite of the presence of huge successes and progress, it is nevertheless necessary to remain on the points of pragmatism and sober assessments of the situation. We need to go a long distance.
