Apple is going to use micro-LED displays in its portable electronics, which will allow the Californian giant to ease dependence on Samsung Electronics. The plans of the American corporation became known to the Japanese business publication Nikkei from informed sources. According to them, micro-LED screens in Apple gadgets may appear as early as 2018.

Panels created with micro-LED technology have higher brightness and energy efficiency compared to OLED displays. In addition, screens on miniature LEDs can be cheaper and bend well, allowing you to create electronics in various forms.

The interlocutor of the publication calls Apple the only company that is ready to start the introduction of micro-LED, despite the immaturity of technology. The high cost, due to the low percentage of output of the products, could scare off another customer, but Apple is satisfied with expensive components.

If micro-LED and find use in Apple products, it will only be "smart" clock. In the near future, the technology is unlikely to appear in smartphones due to numerous technical problems. In this case, iPhone is the main source of revenue for Apple, which accounts for about 60% of the company's revenue.
