In the Russian Federation on June 12, on the Day of Russia, opposition rallies are held in large cities. They were initiated by the opposition politician Alexei Navalny. The main declared theme of the rallies is anti-corruption, but rallies are also part of the Navalny campaign to fight for registration as a candidate in the presidential elections in the Russian Federation.
In Moscow, at the last moment, the organizers refused to hold a concerted rally on Sakharov Avenue, Navalny called on supporters to go to Tverskaya Street - in his words, because of the inability to establish sound and light on an agreed site. The authorities declared a rally on Tverskaya, which is contrary to the law, where the historic festival will take place at the same time.
Meanwhile, it became known about the detention of the first participants of opposition actions.
