The international team of scientists explained the origin in the Earth's atmosphere of xenon - a noble gas, which is often used for anesthesia. The corresponding study is published in the journal Science. Experts believe that about 22 percent of the xenon currently on the planet were brought in by comets. To such conclusions scientists came, having compared the isotopes of the chemical element found on the Earth and found on the comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko. Observations conducted in low orbits by the Rosetta station on May 14-31, 2016, showed that the xenon on the celestial body was trapped in cometary ice. Xenon, the 54th chemical element of the periodic table, is a monatomic gas. On Earth, it is most often found in the atmosphere (0.087 ppm), less often - in the earth's crust. Xenon is used for anesthesia, inhalation with the use of this gas WADA equated to the use of doping.
