The Scottish Episcopal Church permitted the conclusion of same-sex marriages. The Scottish Episcopal Church allowed same-sex couples to get married in churches, reports the BBC.. The Synod in Edinburgh voted to amend the canonical rule, according to which marriage was defined as a union of man and woman. The amendment was made by six of the seven dioceses. The Synod also allowed clergymen to refuse to carry out this ordinance if they believe that the wedding of homosexual couples is contrary to their beliefs. Henceforth, gay Christians from any Anglican church can now perform a wedding ceremony in the Scottish Episcopal Church.

Recall that in 2013 in England and Wales passed a law that legalizes same-sex marriages. In 2014, a similar document was adopted by the Parliament of Scotland. Northern Ireland has so far refrained from legalizing such unions.
