Apostolic Nuncio in Ukraine (Vatican ambassador) Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti was personally acquainted with His Beatitude Lubomir Guzar since 1985. At the request of the "Observer" he shared his memories of this great man.

"For me his presence was very close. I've known him since 1985 - since I started working at the Vatican. He very often came to the Congregation of Eastern Churches, when he was a student (monk of the Studite Charter. - Red. ) In Castel Gandolfo. Later, I witnessed the resumption of his pastoral work in Ukraine as a bishop.

His presence in this post was a very coveted Holy See. I remember very well those days, and the feelings that everyone experienced, including St. John Paul II, as well as Cardinal Silvestrini, who at that time was the prefect of the Congregation of Eastern Churches.
