The American retail chain Kmart for the second time in three years was the victim of hackers who infected the PoS-terminals of the company with malicious software. The first one about the leakage of Kmart customer card data was reported by journalist Brian Krebs.

"Last week I heard suspicions from small banks and credit unions about another leakage of bank card data in Kmart. Some of them received notices from credit card issuers about stolen cards with the same comment: they were all used in Kmart stores, "writes Krebs.

When asked about the rumors about the data leakage, a representative of Sears Holdings (the parent company of Kmart) replied that the management had recently learned about unauthorized actions with credit cards of clients. Kmart asked outside experts for help in order to secure the affected part of the network.

According to the representative of the company, payment systems used in shops were infected with unknown malware that is not detected by antivirus solutions. Having learned about the existence of malware in its payment systems, the company immediately took steps to remove it.

According to the investigation, the leak did not affect the personal data of users. However, in the hands of the attackers were the data of some credit cards. Which of the 735 Kmart stores became victims of hackers and how long the malicious was present in the company's networks is unknown.
