Intel Corporation, according to the resource DigiTimes, is considering the possibility of organizing a new marketing campaign, in which bundles with motherboards on the 200 Series chipsets will be powered by new-generation Optane.
The goal of the initiative is to stimulate sales of Kaby Lake (the seventh generation) processors, the demand for which currently leaves much to be desired. Optane modules are now available in 16 and 32 GB capacities. Their price is about 44 and 77 USD respectively.
Intel describes the possibilities of Optane as follows: "Memory allows you to run web browsers in some cases five times faster than from a disk drive. Downloading games and game levels is also faster - in some cases, the increase in the speed of downloading games is up to 67%, and downloading levels - up to 65%, which allows gamers to focus on the gameplay. Even everyday tasks, such as launching office applications, including mail clients, are almost 5.8 times faster ".
However, market participants doubt that the appearance of kits from motherboards of different manufacturers and Optane modules will seriously affect the sales of Kaby Lake chips. The fact is that in the third quarter is expected to yield the next generation of processors Coffee Lake. Therefore, many users simply postponed the purchase of new chips at a later date.
By the way, recently we reported that MSI plans to bundle some of the boards with Optane storage devices. The offer will be distributed on the models Z270 Tomahawk Opt Boost, B250M Bazooka Opt Boost and B250M Pro Opt boost. The inclusion of Optane in the motherboard package should not affect the price of the end products.
