The law in Ukraine has no retroactive effect, therefore, the abolishment of the "Law of Savchenko" by the Verkhovna Rada will not affect the fate of those who have already released him.
This in the commentary to the "Observer" was told by lawyer, expert of the Center for Political and Legal Reforms Alexander Banchuk.
"In any case, this law does not have a retroactive effect. In addition, the new rules will be effective only from that day and in the event that the president signs it. Until that time, the old rules will apply and the day of stay in the SIZO will be counted for two days of imprisonment. All this has long been necessary to decide, make changes. It is possible to take the day for one and a half or two for three. Because many began to manipulate this, preferring to stay in jail, "- said Banchuk.
Recall that according to official data at the beginning of 2017, according to the "Savchenko's Law", more than 7.7 thousand prisoners were released.
As reported by the "Observer", the decision to abolish the law was supported by 227 people's deputies.
