It is better to see once than hear a hundred times - this trivial truth was instilled today by State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin to the chairman of the National Council of the Federal Assembly of Switzerland, Jurga Stahl, inviting him and other Swiss parliamentarians to visit Syria together with Russian deputies.
According to him, "it is very important for everyone to get involved in this process - the process of peaceful settlement through the participation of parliamentary structures".
To better understand and feel what is happening in Syria, and to form his own position, Volodin said, it would be useful for Swiss deputies to visit the Arab Republic. They could do it together with their Russian counterparts - the delegation of the State Duma is planning such a visit at the invitation of the head of the Syrian People's Council Hadia Abbas.
The Speaker of the State Duma said that it is inadmissible to prosecute those who have done this path in search of truth and expressed bewilderment about the reaction of the European parliamentarians to the visit to the Syrian Arab Republic of the PACE Speaker Pedro Agramunt. For this trip, along with the Russian deputies, the head of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe paid an impeachment, ostracists were also taken by his colleagues who took part in it. Aghramunt actually shut up his mouth, preventing official travel, participation in meetings and public statements on behalf of the assembly.
"When people just wanted to figure out and find out the true picture, they begin to defame and hang all kinds of accusations against them," Volodin said. "It probably should not be, especially in countries with established democratic institutions".
Unlike Russia, which conducts a direct direct inter-parliamentary dialogue with Syria, receiving information first-hand, Europeans, according to the speaker of the State Duma, draw it from the media, not trying to understand themselves, but taking from the position of those countries that are involved in the process.
"In our opinion, it is the inter-parliamentary contacts, the parliamentary dimension of the Syrian dialogue, that would help to know the objective picture, because the accusations that are going against Syria related to chemical weapons, literally today we learned about those accusations that sounded with reference to unnamed non-governmental Organizations in relation to crematoria. It's all based on no basis, "- said the speaker.
The day before, the US State Department accused Damascus of massacre in Seydnaya prison, where, supposedly, 50 prisoners are exterminated daily, and traces of fanaticism are swept away, burning their bodies in the crematorium furnaces. But no one except the Americans, including the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, confirmed these facts.
The speaker of the lower chamber of the Russian parliament noted that Moscow is not trying to whitewash anyone, but is categorically opposed to indiscriminate accusations of indiscriminate accusations, urging them to take them out, only after having thoroughly understood.
According to Volodin, a serious step towards the settlement of the situation in Syria would be the consolidation of the agreements on the four security zones reached in Astana at the inter-Syrian talks that are taking place in Geneva today. Recall that at a recent meeting in the Kazakh capital, Russia, Iran and Turkey agreed to introduce them from May 6 to six months with the possibility of extending the ban on military operations, including flights of aviation. This "rule" refers to the province of Idlib, part of the provinces of Aleppo, Latakia and Hama, the area north of Homs, as well as East Huta, Deraa and Quneitra.
The State Duma speaker stressed that he counts on an effective interparliamentary dialogue between Russia and Switzerland that will allow to bring the positions closer together and "to strengthen mutual trust and understanding in those issues that concern us".
Stressing that this was the first visit of the Swiss parliamentary delegation to Moscow for quite a long time, Volodin personally thanked the chairman of the National Council of the Federal Assembly of Switzerland, Jurga Stahl, who initiated this meeting.
