With the onset of autumn, the number of infectious diseases increases sharply, another epidemic of influenza starts and people who care about their health, try hard to protect themselves from another hospital. At the same time, scientists are convinced that basic hygiene can help significantly reduce the risk of infection with a variety of diseases - from elementary adenovirus infection to stomach disorders.

In two children's schools an interesting study was conducted - the students in the first school were given a brochure with information on how important it was to wash their hands full of advice on how and when to do it better. On this, all the influence of researchers on the pupils of the first school was limited to.

In the second school the doctors went much further - they did not just tell how to wash their hands, but also throughout the reporting period controlled the students' performance of their own advice. The result was quite revealing: in the second school, students at the height of the flu epidemic were on average 26% less sick than the pupils of the first school.

The thing is that most of the diseases transmitted by airborne droplets are not transmitted by air. Of course, if a classmate coughs to his neighbor on the desk in person, then the risk of getting infected is great, but usually people try to close and in general statistics such cases are infrequent. In practice, people often get sick in the cold season, when the thermometer on the street has already fallen below zero. Microbes and viruses can not live at this temperature, and getting into such a medium (flying out of the mouth during a cough) die instantly.

Therefore, you can not get caught in the air on the street. It is quite another matter physical contact. When the patient coughs, he closes his hand, which gets the germs. Subsequently, he takes up various items - money, public transport pens, door handles and so on. On them, the microbial flora can live a long time, in anticipation of the opportunity to move into someone's body. And here you take the same pen and germs are already in your hands.

Scientists have calculated that in this way, about two dozen different diseases are most often transmitted. And to protect yourself from them you can only regularly wash my hands. After hitting your palms, the microbial flora with a high degree of probability will be able to get inside your body - a person often automatically lifts his hands to his face, and any contact with the area around the nose, mouth or eyes actually ensures the disease enters the body. Scientists advise - thoroughly wash your hands several times a day, every time before eating, before and after work / school preferably using a disinfectant soap.
