If the draft Labor Code is adopted in its present form, Ukrainian workers will become dependent. This was stated by the People's Deputy from "Our Territory" Sergei Shakhov.

Sergei Shakhov recalled that the draft Labor Code, which is now being considered by the Verkhovna Rada, was subjected to devastating criticism by experts, trade unions and the Main Scientific and Expert Department of the Verkhovna Rada.

"If adopted, Ukrainian workers will become dependent. We insist on the adoption of the Labor Code only after the completion and removal of discriminatory norms. The "Our Territory" Party supports the adoption of a modern, fair and balanced Labor Code. It must take into account the interests of both employees and employers, "said Sergei Shakhov.

Sergei Shakhov noted that the labor legislation, according to which Ukrainians work today, is outdated and requires changes.

"Ukraine still lives under the Labor Code of 1971. This is a meager official salary, "envelopes", sick leave without proper social benefits, unreasonable dismissals, overtime. For today, we have an unmotivated worker who is not interested in working better or more, and the employer who exploits the worker with impunity or dismisses him at his own discretion, "said Sergei Shakhov.

According to him, a number of provisions of the current draft of the Labor Code contradicts the Constitution of Ukraine, violates human rights and, if adopted, will transform Ukrainians into serfs. Representatives of Our Territory in the Verkhovna Rada will do their best to be seized, and the code was adopted after revision.

"A number of provisions of the current draft of the Labor Code grants broad individual power to employers to enact regulations, monitor the performance of employees' duties and the right to transfer workers to other employers. The project also provides unfair grounds for dismissal from work, restricts the rights of women with children and significantly reduces the rights of trade unions. All these innovations contradict the Constitution of Ukraine, and, in the event of the adoption of the project, will turn Ukrainians into serfs, "- summed up Sergei Shakhov.

The Draft Labor Code has been proposed for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada in 2014.
