Progestogens (progesterone and its derivatives) are used to create a balance of estrogen levels during the menopausal transition phase1 and in the use of hormone replacement therapy.

In women of reproductive age, progestogens cause secretory changes in the endometrium, whereas in postmenopause their effect differs depending on the type and duration of therapy: from secretory to atrophic changes in the endometrium. The goal of progestogens in postmenopause is the prevention of endometrial hyperplastic processes. The duration of treatment with progestogens has two components: the number of days in the cycle and the months / years of administration.

Changes in the endometrium against the background of treatment with progestogens appear on the 10-12 day, and on day 14 with the appointment of progesterone. The long-term effect of progestogens with continuous combined use with estrogens appears after 6 months of use and lasts for 5 years, or until hormonal therapy is applied. Continuous combined hormonal therapy promotes the transition of endometrial hyperplasia to normal endometrium.
