The aggressive foreign policy of the Russian Federation can not be stopped by the same means that were used in Yugoslavia, for one reason: the existence of a nuclear weapon.
This opinion was expressed to the "Observer" by the Russian political scientist and politician Andrei Piontkovsky.
Commenting on the statement of the representative of Ukraine in the UN Security Council about the "instability belt" that Russia formed around itself and the need to resolve the problem according to the Yugoslav scenario, the politician admitted: "I really liked this statement. It is very strong, reasoned ".
At the same time, he remarked: "We understand that it is rather rhetorical. We remember that the situation of bloodshed in Yugoslavia was stopped by NATO military intervention. No other methods were applied to Milosevic. In the case of Russia, a nuclear state, such military intervention is excluded. But in principle, of course, he is right, and I think that the West shares this position ".
Despite this, Piontkovsky is convinced that positive results with regard to curbing the Kremlin can be achieved "by economic and political methods". "There are a lot of opportunities for such work here - and due to the growing internal weakness of Putin's regime, I assure you, this will be quite enough," he said..
