Scientists have discovered why men are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes than women - they are biologically more prone to this disease. An important role in this matter is played by the distribution of fatty deposits - in men they accumulate in the abdomen and waist region, while so unfamiliar with women's cellulite, when fat accumulates in the thigh area, is in fact much more "safe".
As a result, women can have even more fat tissues in the body than in representatives of the strong half of humanity, but due to its more proportional distribution, the risk of type 2 diabetes will still be lower.
For the study, the researchers analyzed data from the case histories of 51,920 men and 43,137 women in Scotland who had diabetes at different times, taking into account the body weight and the degree of obesity of the subjects studied, for which the body mass index was calculated on the basis of the growth and weight of patients. The results showed that women developed diabetes mellitus at a high body mass index, while in men it could be at the level of average indices.
As you know, type 2 diabetes occurs when the ability of some organs to regulate blood sugar levels decreases. And it can decrease due to the accumulation of fatty deposits in the area where these organs are located, in particular the liver. So it turns out that men's "beer tummies" represent the right way to get diabetes, and the general degree of obesity of the body does not play any significant role. According to scientists, the new discovery will allow us to better understand the nature of the development of diabetes, and develop effective means of preventing this disease.
