Vice-Chancellor of Austria, the head of the Austrian People's Party, Reinhold Mitterlener, resigns, Kurier reports.

"I resign my authority as a party leader and a member of the government," Mitterlener said during a special press conference.

The Austrian People's Party, together with the Social Democratic Party, forms a parliamentary coalition. According to journalists, the change of party leadership has been taking place for the fourth time in the last decade.

At the same time, rumors regarding the possible resignation of the vice-kanler have spread over the past few months. Instead of Mitterlener, the head of the party may be the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sebastian Kurtz. However, Kurtz himself had previously stressed that he was not yet ready to take the leadership of the party into his own hands.

The statement on the resignation of the policy must also be made by the country's Chancellor, the head of the Social Democratic Party Christian Kern.
