Glukhiv newspaper "Week" appealed to the Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information Policy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine with a request to protect it from the actions of Mayor Michel Tereshchenko, who is suing the newspaper.

This is stated in the appeal "Michel Tereshchenko is trying to establish censorship", published on the website of the publication.

As indicated in the appeal to the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, the mayor constantly and plannedly interferes with the activities of representatives of various media Glukhova.

"We are asking you to intervene in the situation and assess the actions of the Mayor of Glukhov Michel Tereschenko, who for one and a half years of his mayor has systematically and constantly hampered the journalistic activity of representatives of various media Glukhov, is trying to establish censorship," the statement says..

The editorial board reports that the first court hearing on the lawsuit filed by Michel Tereschenko is scheduled for May 5. The mayor demands to refute the information stated in the article "With its charter", which told about the attempt of the head of the city to break into the Glukhov temple together with unknown.

"The city's head did not like the words of an eyewitness of events, did not like the comments of the people involved in the topic of the article, did not like that the newspaper has a large circulation and there is a website on the Internet through which millions of people can find out information about it. He apparently does not understand absolutely the responsibility of an official of a local government and a public person, or the foundations of a democratic society, where freedom of speech and opinion is one of the main values, "the journalists are convinced.

Also, "Week" reminded that this is far from the first time that the Mayor of Glukhov intervened in the activities of the media. So Tereshchenko in 2015 personally put out of the hardware meeting of the editor-in-chief of the newspaper. Investigation of criminal proceedings against Tereshchenko for obstructing journalistic activities continues.

In addition, Tereshchenko liquidated the communal newspaper of the City Council "People's Tribune" with flagrant violations of labor legislation, freeing workers without warning, without paying compensation and issuing workbooks.

"The reason was never concealed - the newspaper wrote about the previous mayor. Litigation lasted more than a year and a half, a number of lawsuits about unlawful actions and decisions of the deaf authorities were considered in the courts, the police have applications for obstruction of professional activity. City authorities failed to put their manual editor and censor the publication, so they decided everything was simple - to eliminate. Despite the fact that the editorial board asked the city council to withdraw from the co-founders and allow the newspaper to work independently of the wishes of the authorities, they were liquidated, "I write.

"We consider it inadmissible to establish any manifestations of censorship in Glukhov from the side of the mayor," is summarized in the appeal of "The Week".

As it was reported, in 2016, the CNLU awarded Michel Tereshchenko the title "Enemy of the Press", and the Independent Media Trade Union of Ukraine recognized the existence of censorship in Glukhov on the part of the authorities.
