The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine will ask the court to sentence the former runaway president Viktor Yanukovych to life imprisonment, said Prosecutor of the Department of the Main Military Prosecutor's Office of the GPU Ruslan Kravchenko.
"The capital punishment is life imprisonment. The prosecution party, in connection with the fact that the accused and suspect Yanukovych did not admit his guilt during the pre-trial investigation, will apply only for the maximum penalty - life imprisonment, "Kravchenko said," 112 Ukraine ".
The prosecutor is sure that if a conviction is pronounced, this case will pass all instances, even if the defense party wants to file a complaint with the ECHR.
"Evidence for this criminal proceeding is the testimony of witnesses, documents, expert opinions, physical evidence and other photo and video materials. We are confident that our evidence base was collected during the pre-trial investigation in accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. I am sure that we will be able to prove the guilt of Yanukovych in the Obolonsky district court and in general in Ukrainian legal proceedings, "added Kravchenko.
Earlier it was reported that the Obolonsky District Court of Kyiv had allowed the protection of former runaway President Viktor Yanukovych to organize a videoconference for the participation of their client in the judicial process and announced a break until May 18.
