This discovery, published on the site of The FASEB Journal, can lead to the appearance of drugs and treatments that slow the aging of the person and prevent cancer.

Experts working at the Center for Aging and Comparative Cancer Research at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, conducting a new study, hope that the discovery will be followed by an explanation of the causes of these phenomena in different types of cells and the creation of new ways of prolonging people's lives, and that these Research will contribute to the fight against cancer and other age-related diseases by controlling the consumption of calories by different types of cells.

In the work, researchers used normal cells of the human lung and cells taken from the lung at the initial stage of development of a malignant tumor. It was found that normal cells live longer, and many of the precancerous die if given less glucose.
