Russia and the US are trying to understand what the parties want from each other and what they can give each other. Including this concerns the issue of Ukraine. If we drop all the rhetoric, now we are talking about freezing the conflict in the Donbass. Not about permission. On both sides there is understanding, with the American there is exactly what to solve the problem at the moment is impossible. It would be very good to at least freeze it.
Freeze - this means stop shooting. That is, to achieve, at the line of contact, to cease hostilities. Then exchange prisoners and things like that. That is, they share the problem - the first, the freezing, and the second - the solution of the problem itself. Parties are aware that freezing is a preliminary necessary step. This, of course, does not mean solving the problem, but such a result would now be better than nothing.
I do not exclude that it is possible under certain conditions. Under certain conditions, presumably, they suggest, among other things, the resumption of some kind of economic relations between the self-proclaimed republics and Ukraine. I do not really imagine how this complex of services will be, but there is some. It is rather expensive for Russia to maintain these republics.
Regarding the latest actions (on electricity supply to the occupied areas of Lugansk region. - Ed), then there was simply no way out for Russia. It was necessary to help. But this does not mean that this is done with desire. The same creates a number of problems.
One of the main questions is who will push the Donbass to whom - and the solution of the problem is not possible. And Americans understand this well. I can quote you verbatim: "We are well aware that Russia and Ukraine are interested only in the part of the Minsk agreements. That is, Russia in some points, and Ukraine in others. No one is interested in implementing the agreements completely ".
But the resumption of economic ties would rather be in the interests of both parties.
