Women who suffer increased anxiety and stress, scientists advise to review their diet. They believe that an unbalanced diet with a high fat content can cause mental disorders. Those who prefer red meat, fruits, vegetables and cereals, the state of mind, on the contrary, is more stable.
Scientists have investigated the effect of diet on the likelihood of developing mental disorders. The researchers compared data on the diet and health status of 1,046 women aged 20 to 93 years. 925 of them did not suffer from affective disorders, and 121 suffered from depression and an increased level of anxiety. It turned out that those who were fed on the "Western diet" - hamburgers, white bread, pizza, chips, flavored milkshakes, beer and food with a high sugar content - these disorders were 50% more common. In turn, those who consumed mainly fruits, mutton, beef, vegetables and grains, increased anxiety and depressive disorders, on the contrary, met 30% less frequently than the average for the entire population.
In the opinion of specialists, those who have more often consumed foods with a higher fat content in the last ten years have experienced psychic disorders more often than the rest. This relationship was evident even after the researchers took into account the many different factors affecting the health and nutrition culture: age, body weight, education level, social status, physical activity, bad habits.
Scientists noted that the question of the relationship of mental disorders with malnutrition requires further study. Since the diet is easily amenable to change, further work in this direction can be of great practical importance.
