The president of the Guam Football Association, Richard Lai, who is also a member of the FIFA audit and compliance committee, pleaded guilty to corruption.

This happened during a federal court hearing in Brooklyn.

The official was accused of several cases of bribes from football functionaries. And in 2011, according to the investigation, he received 100 thousand dollars from one of the officials of the Asian Football Confederation. This official claimed to be the head of FIFA in exchange for Lai's voice.

In addition, he received about 850 thousand dollars from various football officials in the Asian region in exchange for promoting their interests.

Lai acknowledged all charges and agreed to pay a $ 1 million fine.

Recall that recently the French Public Prosecutor's Office launched a preliminary investigation into corruption in FIFA, which concerns the process of the election of the hosts of the World Cups in 2018 and 2022.
