In the past two years after the annexation of the Crimean peninsula by Russia, the number of classes with the Ukrainian language of instruction in Crimean schools has decreased 31 times, and the number of their students - 36. About this in his article for ZN. UA writes Valentin Samar, referring to the data of the Crimean human rights group.
The author notes that for today in Simferopol in such classes only 174 children study.
"Russia conducts a purposeful policy in Crimea to eliminate the foundations of Ukrainian identity and Ukrainian culture. When choosing the language of instruction, parents are subjected to moral or administrative pressure from the leadership of schools, they are required not to specify Ukrainian as the language of instruction. It is also important that in a situation where Ukrainians stubbornly label "enemy", Crimeans are afraid to openly position their Ukrainian identity when choosing the language of instruction, "Samar cites the conclusion of the Crimean human rights group.
It is noted that monitoring of access to education in the native language in the occupied Crimea was provided to the International Court of Justice as evidence of Russia's violation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
Recall, the International Court of Justice in The Hague agreed to the introduction of temporary measures in the case "Ukraine vs. Russia" in the issue of discrimination of national minorities in the Crimea. Among other things, the court ordered Russia to resume the Mejlis and refrain from restrictions for the Crimean Tatars in the representation of their interests, according to "European Pravda".
Also among the requirements is the resumption of education in the Crimea in Ukrainian. In addition, the court asked both sides to refrain from any form of racial discrimination.
