During a telephone conversation with US President Donald Tramp, German Chancellor Angela Merkel could try to convince him that the war in Ukraine is a concern not only for Europe but also for the United States.
Such an opinion was expressed to the "Observer" by the ex-Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Lieutenant-General Igor Romanenko.
According to him, the need for such a conversation arose because of recent changes in world politics, as well as the "state of international affairs". "There is a complicated process, so both Trump and Merkel understand that it is impossible to postpone the dialogue until the time when Merkel's powers will be confirmed by the elections,.
The general suggested that the topic number one could be North Korea. "Trump intends to achieve a general influence on the situation - the situation of the birth of a new nuclear power, although in many respects it has already happened. The main thing is to prevent the buildup of new nuclear capabilities of the DPRK ".
"The theme of Ukraine, I think, was not the first," remarked Romanenko. "Based on what is said and done by Trump, he is inclined to the fact that after all Ukraine is a part of Europe, that's why the situation has to be understood by Europeans".
"In my opinion, he still needs time to understand that members of the Norman format and in general European leaders are not so strong as to influence Putin - Putin considers them to be below their level. He sees himself in the triumvirate - US-China-RF. He condescends to communicate with them. This is the reason that the work of the "Norman" format stalls ".
"Merkel could convince Trump that he needed to intervene in the Ukrainian question?" - asked "The Observer". "Little by little, as far as can be said about this, Trumpu. Merkel is a wise politician, she is looking for solutions, including the Ukrainian question. Because the DPRK from Europe is far away. But if the confrontation turns into a nuclear one, it will concern everyone in this world, "Romanenko replied..
As the "Observer" wrote, on April 24, US President Donald Trump and German Chancellor Angela Merkel held a telephone conversation during which the White House chief assured the interlocutor that he supports the efforts of France and Germany to settle the conflict in the Donbass.
